The Zambezi River is one of Africa's largest and most spectacular rivers.
We offer three
different Zambezi River canoe trails:
Kakomomarara:
This canoe trail starts from Chirundu and finishes at Nyamepi Camp in
Mana Pools National Park, a total distance of 78kms down the Zambezi River.
Chewore:
The second
canoe trail we offer starts from Nyamepi Camp, Mana Pools National Park
and finishes at the Chewore River Mouth, covering a total of distance
of 75 kms.
Chimombe:
The third and final canoe trail starts from Nyamepi Camp, Mana
Pools National Park and finishes at Kanyemba, a border town with Mozambique,
128kms downstream.
In
addition to these three Zambezi River canoe trails, we can tailor-make
individual canoe safaris to meet your specific requirements.

Kakomomarara:
DAY 1
Chirundu being a border post with Zambia is set on the Zambezi River and
is the weekend paradise for fishermen.This spot is approximately five
hours out of Harare by road or alternatively can also be reached by chartered
flight. Briefed by the guide at about 1400 hours as to canoeing and safety
procedures, you will launch onto the Zambezi River with our experienced
river guides and canoe 16 kms before stopping for the night near the Kakomomarara
Hills
DAY 2
After an early morning start guests canoe to their breakfast site set
in spectacular scenery on the banks of the Zambezi River. Game will now
have become more prevalent as the trail approaches the edge of the Mana
Pools National Park. Having covered 22 kms this day, the trail stops overnight
at "Lone Acacia".
DAY 3
Today guests canoe from Lone Acacia into Mana Pools National Park where
the river breaks up,giving guests the opportunity to explore the many
river channels, abundant in birdlife and game. The distance travelled
this day will be 24 kms.
DAY 4
This is the last day of the Kakomomarara Trail which ends at Nyamepi Camp
in Mana Pools National Park. After canoeing for 15 kms guests arrive at
the camp approximately mid-morning where the trail ends.
Chewore:
DAY 1
Nyamepi Camp is set on the Zambezi River. This spot is approximately seven
hours out of Harare by road or alternatively can also be reached by chartered
flight. Briefed by the guide at about 1400 hours as to canoeing and safety
procedures, you will launch onto the Zambezi River with our experienced
river guides and canoe 13 kms along this wide channeled part of the Lower
Zambezi to the first overnight stop.
DAY 2
After an early morning rise, the trail continues past islands, reed beds
and sand bars where elephant, hippos and abundant birdlife can be seen.
The distance covered this day is 28 kms before stopping overnight at Nyamautsi.
DAY 3
Today guests canoe into the Zambezi River's main stream and will approach
the Chewore Safari Area. Guests canoe 25 kms this day following the river
as it winds its way between mountains on one side and plains on the other.
The over night stop is near the Chewore River Mouth.
DAY 4
Guests will canoe 9 kms in the early morning to the Chewore River Mouth
on the Zambezi River where the trail ends.
Chimombe:
DAY
1
After a canoe safety procedures briefing, guests launch onto the Zambezi
River with our experienced river guides, and canoe 14 kms to the overnight
stop near Nyamatusi, where elephant and buffalo can be seen on the islands.
DAY 2
Today guests canoe along wide, open stretches of the river passing through
channels abundant in birdlife and game. Having covered 28 kms the trail
stops overnight in the Sapi Safari Area.
DAY 3
After an early morning start the safari channels out of the Zambezi River
main stream. The river winds its way between the mountains of the Zambian
escarpment and the plain on the Zimbabwe side. The distance covered is
38 kms before stopping overnight at the Mupata Gorge entrance.
DAY 4
The fourth day is spent canoeing through the spectacular scenery of the
Mutapa Gorge,with its impressive rock formations, high sand banks and
abundance of trees and birdlife. A distance of 40 kms is covered this
day before the night stop.
DAY 5
This the last day of the Chimombe Trail ending at Kanyemba,a border town
with Mozambique. This is a relaxed 8 km canoe trip where the canoe trail
ends. |
